Blood Pressure Measurement

FALSE.

You should avoid caffeinated drinks (e.g. coffee, tea), alcohol or smoking 30 minutes before your blood pressure measurement, as these might temporarily increase your blood pressure.

A review of 34 studies showed that 200-300mg of caffeine from coffee resulted in an average increase of 8mmHg and 6mmHg in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respectively. This effect was observed for up to three hours after consumption, and results were similar in people with normal blood pressure at baseline and those with pre-existing high blood pressure.
